Been away from the UK for 11 months.
I’ll go back on September 9th – but only for a three-week holiday to see family and friends: then I’ll come to Saigon again: work agreed to my request for a one-year extension to my career-break.
I simply wasn’t ready to go back and face the East Lancs Rd at 8am.
I’ve met so many interesting people, have so many memories and have no regrets at leaving at all. I enjoy every day.
I’ve reached the stage where I’m not exactly tired of travelling, but feel the need to do more with my days – wonderful though it is to wake up and know the only decision to make is where to have breakfast, I crave purpose, and being able to sustain a life in Asia is motivation enough to try and do something.
I’ve decided to stay in Vietnam for now – I have friends here and I enjoy life in Saigon. And Cambodia is only a $12, 6 hour bus ride away. I can be in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, or Manila in less than 3 hours – as well as being an interesting city, it’s also well-placed for South-East Asian travel.
There are options and opportunities that were not visible or dreamt of in Warrington, and I hope to explore all of these and hopefully others over the next year.
The UK still seems smaller, greyer and more uninteresting & expensive by the day.
Keep reading and I’ll try and improve the frequency, promise!

Hi Brian,
I say listen to your heart, once you are back to the humdrum working life of 9.00am to 5.00pm, it will be too late to turn back the clock.
I say make your exciting journey last that bit longer!!
Take care,
Regards.
Donna
Hi Brian
Thanks for visiting my blog, and for your comment…
Seems we’re on a similar journey… where art thou now??
I’ve added a link to your blog on mine – under other escapees heading
Happy travelling…
Hi Brian
I visited Vietnam twice last year from New Zealand and it is a great place to take photos.
There is an energy evident that just isn’t in the West. You mention colour. Its true.
Keep your camera near by and record what you see as this is a wonderful time in your life. ( I loved Nha Trang)
